Who Athanasia al Ghul is

Athanasia is Bruce Wayne’s daughter with Talia al Ghul in the Injustice universe, an alternate continuity based on the fighting games. Wikipedia lists her among the forces of Ra’s al Ghul. Reviewers describe her as a stand-in for Damian Wayne within the League of Shadows after Damian sided with his father.

Her name is the Greek word for immortality, a fitting choice for a family that uses the Lazarus Pit to cheat death. She has no mainline DC counterpart, which partly explains the rising search interest. Few readers outside the comic know she exists.

The Injustice 2 comic

Injustice 2 is a prequel comic to the 2017 video game, written by Tom Taylor with art by Bruno Redondo, Juan Albarran, Daniel Sampere, Mike S. Miller and Xermanico. It ran weekly in digital form from April 2017 to October 2018, for 72 digital chapters, 36 print issues and 2 annuals.

The central conflict is Ra’s al Ghul’s campaign to force the world to reverse climate change. He gathers villains, kidnaps executives and forces Professor Ivo to build Amazo, and Athanasia fights on his side. His methods eventually turn some of his own family against him.

The Wayne Manor attack (issues 50–51)

In her most talked-about scenes, Athanasia confronts her father at Wayne Manor. Comic Watch’s review of issue 51 describes her shooting Catwoman, holding Alfred and the dog Ace at gunpoint, and making clear that what she wants is Batman’s death. It is one of the darkest family scenes in the series.

As the scene escalates she grows more unstable, at one point turning the gun on herself. The issue ends on an unresolved gunshot, a cliffhanger that made the chapter a fan favourite. Readers had to wait for the next chapter to learn who was hit.

The Lazarus Pit hint

The same review notes that Athanasia indirectly admits she has died and been revived in a Lazarus Pit. Reviewers link her volatility to that resurrection, and to the absolute devotion she shows Ra’s. The review treats this as the key to her behaviour.

The character works as a dark mirror of Damian: what he might have become if Batman had never taken him in. That contrast drives most fan discussion of her. Both children were shaped by the League, but only one was given a way out.

What happens to her

By issue 67, at the end of the AMAZO arc, Athanasia is arrested. Ra’s al Ghul’s campaign collapses when Gorilla Grodd takes control of his mind and kills him, while Damian helps Supergirl destroy Amazo on the Moon. Her own story closes with that arrest rather than a redemption.

She has not been used in mainline DC books or in the Injustice 2 game roster, so the comic is the only place to read her full story. Collected editions of Injustice 2 reprint the digital chapters. Check the volume contents before buying if she is the reason you are reading.
