Athanasia launched in Steam Early Access on October 19, 2026 for Windows PC. The base price is $15.99 (£14.49 / €16.49), with a 10% introductory discount to $14.39 that Steam says ends November 2. The build contains the first three of six planned areas, about half the game. Version 1.0 is targeted for mid-2027, and the developers plan to raise the price at full release.

Launch date and price
The Early Access release went live on Steam on October 19, 2026, the date the store page had listed for months. Momentum Games LLC is the developer and Black Lantern Collective the publisher. The publisher’s press release, dated October 20 from Kraków, confirms the game is now available rather than planned.
The press release lists the price as $15.99, £14.49 and €16.49. On launch, Steam showed a 10% introductory discount, bringing the US price to $14.39, with the offer ending November 2. Steam also lists bundles that pair Athanasia with other Black Lantern titles, such as Comatose x Athanasia. Regional prices may differ from these figures.
How much of the game you get
The developer FAQ on Steam says the Early Access version contains the first three areas, which the team estimates is about half the intended length. Core systems are in place, and most enemy and item types are already implemented. What remains is level design, graphical assets and polish for the later areas.
The full release is planned to have six areas, a variety of enemy types and a wide range of weapons and equipment. More content may be added depending on feedback. If you want a finished story with an ending, Early Access will stop partway; if you want to explore the systems now, the first half is playable today.
What the Early Access build plays like
The launch announcement describes an immersive first-person shooter inspired by System Shock and Dino Crisis. You play Carmen Flores in an abandoned research station in the South American jungle. Doors open through keycards, power switches, strength and crowbars, or improvised molotov cocktails, and vents let you sneak past creatures.
You start with a knife and find a crossbow and other weapons later. Maps found in offices can be marked up with the mouse, and meat and traps can lure creatures away. The press release even mentions that some computers have self-destruct functions. Our weapon, map and puzzle pages go deeper into each system.
Early player reviews
On October 20, one day after launch, Steam showed 87% positive user reviews from 16 reviews of the Early Access version. That is a small sample, so the score can move a lot in the first weeks. The earlier free demo had collected a separate, much larger set of Very Positive reviews.
Treat launch-week scores as a first impression rather than a verdict. Reading the most helpful recent reviews tells you more than the percentage, especially for performance on your hardware. This wiki does not publish its own review score.
Should you buy now or wait for 1.0?
Buying now gets the lowest price the developers have signalled, since they state the price will rise at full release. The discount window to November 2 lowers it further. You also get to send feedback that can shape the remaining three areas through the Steam forums, Discord and social media.
Waiting makes sense if you only want the complete experience. Version 1.0 is targeted for the middle of 2027, and the developers warn that it may slip. Saves, balance and item placement can change between Early Access updates, so expect some rough edges.
Platform, language and hardware
Athanasia is a single-player game for Windows PC on Steam. English is the only listed language, covering interface, full audio and subtitles. No console version is announced, and Steam had not shown a Steam Deck rating when this page was checked.
The store lists modest requirements: a 2.4 GHz dual-core CPU, a GTX 660 at minimum or GTX 750 recommended, and 2 GB of storage. The memory lines read 4 MB and 8 MB, which our system requirements page discusses in detail. Those are almost certainly typos for gigabytes, but test the game within Steam’s refund window if your PC is close to the minimum.
